3 Steps for How to Inspire People Around You – Part 3
The Leadership Blog is dedicated to bringing you the best leadership tips from around the world. this week our articles will focus on inspiring others around you. Inspiration is such an incredible motivational state. What’s brilliant about working and living with inspired people is that you’ll find you won’t need to ever worry about their affairs. That special inspired characteristic means that they’ll be putting in all the effort required to look after things on their side, which means as a team leader or manager – you’ll enjoy working with them. Inspired people aren’t just drops of gold that you need to find, or worse, wait for. You can create an inspired team by yourself, using the following 3 techniques outlined in this series. Part 3 follows.
3. Show your own enthusiasm. I’ve saved the most important point until last. You cannot expect to instill enthusiasm and inspiration within others if you do not display these characteristics yourself. People hate following hypocrites, so you won’t make any allies by coaching your team to behave one way, and then ignoring those rules yourself. Lets be honest; if you really find that you’re so uninspired by the current task that that you cannot enthuse yourself, then how can you expect your colleagues to be driven towards the goals you have set them? Leadership Blog aims to increase your leadership skills to no end, but applying those skills in practise must be a well thought out and genuine process. Enthusiasm is magically contagious, but if you simply desire to manipulate then you’ll spread nothing but resentment among your team. If you’re in the situation where you have to pretend to be enthused; you really need to think about changing your career because you will never feel happy on your current path.
Provided you are truely inspired by what you do, and you display this confidently to your team mates, you will find this will infect the culture of your team; spreading through your colleagues at a dizzying rate! And provided you talk in terms of their ambitions and set a challenging personal objective for them, you will begin to see enthusiasm bubble out of your collegues like champagne from the bottle!
Overall:
1. Talk to their dreams
2. Appeal to their competitive nature
3. Display your own inspiration
